Blog & Website Photo Optimization

This post isn't about a collectible but it is about a tool that I use to post photographs on this blog and other websites. This is hopefully some useful information about using photographs on your blog or website (or in emails etc).

If you aren't already, you should be using a photo optimization program which compresses your photographs and optimizes the use of colors etc. Using an optimization program will dramatically speed up the loading of your photographs. A 6.85mb photograph can be optimized so it only uses 70kb and yet the difference in clarity of the photograph is hardly noticeable.

For the past 8 years I have been using Microsoft Picture-It, but a couple of months ago I found a neat little stand alone photo optimization program called RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool) that is free and so simple to use, its amazing! I still use MS Picture-It for photo sizing and initial web optimization but when I use it in combination with RIOT, the reduction is amazing.
